Recycling on the Runway

I was pleased to see that, once again, recycling has made its way into Project Runway. I'm a sucker for any skill-based reality tv show and Project Runway is one of my favorites. This season the designers had create garments from salvage car parts. As always, there were designs that were in and that were out. The winner was a trenchcoat made of golden seatbelt salvage.

Alaska Native Ariel Tweto kicks butt on Wipeout

Ariel Tweto, from the Native Village of Unalakleet in Alaska, recently kicked butt on the ABC's new show Wipeout. Although I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I'm a HUGE fan of Wipeout, I really was out of my seat cheering on Ariel throughout the show. Not only did she kick butt throughout the first rounds, she was awesome in the finals!!! I think her attitude and personality were the best part though, you just want to give her a big hug. She not only represented Alaskans, she represented her fellow Eskimo people and Indigenous people around the world...and she had a blast doing it! From what I've found Googling Ms. Ariel, she's a cross country star and has her sights on a journalism and /or fitness-nutrition career. She was fantastic on the show so I bet we'll see more of her.

Nigella's grean feast

I was SO psyched to see that my favorite chef, Nigella Lawson, has another show on the tele. I was a diehard fan when her shows Nigella Bites and Forever Summer were on the Style Network. Her latest show, Nigella Feasts is on the Food Network and in her first episode she's already pushing organic. I recall from her previous series in the UK that she had a green powered kitchen so its great to see her continuing her green ways in her latest gig.

Future friendly Project Runway

What a surprise to turn on the TV to watch this week's episode of Project Runway and hear the words "global warming". Apparently, the budding designers' project this week was to work as a team to design a line for the year 2055 and the environment was a key issue. Plus, they had to source all their textiles for the project from a vintage store. Go team, go!

Six feet hotter

OK...how impressed was I when global warming and resource scarcity came up on Sunday's episode of Six Feet Under. As George put it, wars in the future will be fought over water, not oil." Love it. Perhaps even EMA Award or even OSSA Award potential?

Went to see my landscaper-by-day, musician-by-night buddy Josh play in his band Spyplane last night. Great indie rock sound and it'a always cool to know somebody in the band.

Brini knows best

I must confess I have a new favorite show...the Brini Maxwell Show. Major kitsch and on her latest episode she insisted that viewers use organic or home grown flowers for the fresh salads, desserts and summer drinks she whipped up on the show.

Fashion Rocks

I am totally loving Fashion Rocks, a fashion-music extravaganza that benefits the Prince's Trust, a UK nonprofit that helps young people get and keep their lives on track.

Queer Eye

Dude, I was so impressed that the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy guys got their latest straight man to donate his golden locks to Locks of Love. Loved the Fab Five before, even more now.
