Shanghai's Seed Cathedral

The UK Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo has both scientists and designers all abuzz. Designed by English designer Thomas Heatherwick, the building utilizes 60,000 transparent rods that move with the wind and send shimmering light into the interior of the stucture by day and cast an etherial glow by night. Even more impressive...each rod tip contains a seed from Kumming's Institute of Botany. Inspired by Englands love of gardening and public parks, and the Kew Gardens Millennium Seed Bank, Heatherwick created the building and broader pavilion to honor and celebrate green spaces, sustainability, and biodiversity.

And the survey says...I would be Tesla

Science Channel's new series Brink comes with a lot of bells and whistles. I stumbled upon this What scientist are you? quiz and am pretty pleased that I would be Tesla. Lots of other fun things to read and interact with on the site too so surf on by and get clicking.

Book Review - What We Believe but Cannot Prove: Today's Leading Thinkers on Science in the Age of Certainty

This was a fun read, always a good time when scientists and other leading thinkers let their minds go a little crazy. But I must say I wasn't really 'wowed' by any of the many, many short essays. This was the 2006 edition of John Brockman's annual question to the members of The Edge website, an online thinktank/blog or sorts. Some funny essays, some boring essays, and quite a few that were well worth their read if for no other reason that they were by famous scientists.
