NBC/Universal - Green is Universal

Once again NBC/Universal (NBCU) is going CRAZY green on Earth Day as part of their Green is Universal initiative. Even better, each of Universal's 'brands' has its own green page as well...take NBC's green page and the Sci Fi Channel for example. NBCU actually has quite a bit of programming throughout the year but each year on Earth Day, they go hard core green. This year is no different with green (literally sometimes) showing up all over the place whether its the logo during the Today show to special editions of "The More You Know", to Oprah's Earth Day show.

A Green Dream Come True

That's right folks. When I co-founded SSF four years ago I boldly said that we couldn't say we've succeeded until Oprah had a green giveaway show. Well today my friends, it happened. To top it all off, my friend Josh Dorfman was on the Martha Stewart Show. Yee haw!!!

Oprah's show was Green 101. It featured Simran Sehti (of Treehugger and Sundance Channel's The Green fame) showing all sorts of ways to go a little more green in our lives. Oprah had some great 'real life' stories and guests and several celeb camios too...Laurie David and Sheryl Crow for example. And of course...the giveaways, from Oprah's organic canvas grocery bag to a Shaklee basket of cleaning goodies.

It was also really great seeing friend Josh Dorfman of Lazy Environmentalist fame on the Martha Stewart Show. Josh did a great job demonstrating eco-products to the domestic goddess. Aaaannnndddd...Oprah, Martha, Laurie...that brings the total number of SSF 2007 Best Dressed Environmentalists I saw on television today to three! Man, we can pick 'em.

There really is an Oprah

It's a pretty rare thing that I get to watch Oprah these days but today was one of those luck days. The show was actually a review show but as usual, I did find myself tearing up here and there...all happy stuff, but great stuff nonetheless. My favorite was a little guy name Holden finding out that 'there really is an Oprah'. Too cute. Another great thing, all the proceeds from the Oprah Boutique benefit her Angel Network.

I also received a personal phone call from WA Senator Patti Murray this afternoon. Well, to be honest she was calling the couple who owns the house where I'm housesitting...but it was still cool to take the call. She and target=newwindow>Congressman Jim McDermott are two of my favorite politicians these days.

Finally...OK, how much to I love Fox's The Simple Life? Being a Nebraska farm boy at heart I have to say that I really do love the show. Yeah, Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie can be obnoxious at times, but most of the time it really is entertaining. I actually ran into Nicole briefly at the LOHAS 8 conference in May. She's actually a really great person and totally gets the sustainable style thing.
