Book Review: The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget

Being the Lifestyle Ambassador & Co-founder of the Sustainable Style Foundation and all, I thought Josh Dorfman had written the perfect book when he penned his first opus, The Lazy Environmentalist back in 2007. Many authors have attempted to write the next big guide to going green, but none quite compared to Josh's first 'guide to easy, stylish, green living'. As it turns out...Josh himself has written the next big guide to going green...and its AWESOME! Once again, Josh is able to make going green totally down to earth and accessible. When Joe the Plumber decides to go green, I'm pretty sure he'll read The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget. In his new book, Josh once again runs down the list of the best products and resources for green living, but this time he's on an even higher mission...going green while saving both time and money. Clearly, given the economic situation we're all in, his new book is timely but it is also a resource that will serve as a guide in any era as it is essentially a road map for how to make affordable and sustainable lifestyle choices whether you're a college senior living on student loans or a hard-working soccer (or hockey) Mom. Recently laid off or just getting out of school but still want to get your green on? Don't fret, Josh even has a section on the booming green job market. Once you've dog-eared your dozens of pages, hit the computer and surf over to Josh's website The Lazy Environmentalist to get new tidbits and pointers. Even better, tune in to Josh on the Sundance Channel starting in June of 2009.

A Green Dream Come True

That's right folks. When I co-founded SSF four years ago I boldly said that we couldn't say we've succeeded until Oprah had a green giveaway show. Well today my friends, it happened. To top it all off, my friend Josh Dorfman was on the Martha Stewart Show. Yee haw!!!

Oprah's show was Green 101. It featured Simran Sehti (of Treehugger and Sundance Channel's The Green fame) showing all sorts of ways to go a little more green in our lives. Oprah had some great 'real life' stories and guests and several celeb camios too...Laurie David and Sheryl Crow for example. And of course...the giveaways, from Oprah's organic canvas grocery bag to a Shaklee basket of cleaning goodies.

It was also really great seeing friend Josh Dorfman of Lazy Environmentalist fame on the Martha Stewart Show. Josh did a great job demonstrating eco-products to the domestic goddess. Aaaannnndddd...Oprah, Martha, Laurie...that brings the total number of SSF 2007 Best Dressed Environmentalists I saw on television today to three! Man, we can pick 'em.

BSR bash in NYC

Just finishing up our second year helping out Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) with their annual conference, styling and producing their registration area and gala reception. It was another great year of demonstrating the amount and breadth of sustainability efforts underway. And, it's always great to hear about what companies are doing in the corporate social responsibility arena. Got to hang with some of our NY friends which is always great too. Just before I left for Seattle got to have a quick meeting with Sara Cross from Cool not Cruel, model and entomologist Summer Rayne Oakes, Josh Dorfman of Vivavi and Mark Spellun of Plenty Magazine...such awesome, inspiring people. Can't wait to get out there and make some change myself.
